Forever

I walked in to my prayer room this morning and read a verse I jot down a few days ago : “The grass withereth, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand forever.” Isaiah 40:8.

I read it a couple of times… puzzled…. I kept pausing on FOREVER… Do I even know what that means?

“Forever” means something that never ends… eternal. It is synonym to permanent or endless.

It is without a doubt that as a society, we overuse “forever” and all its synonyms. You know, the permanent full-time job employee that got laid off… Seeing the casket of the person who continually said: “I will always be there for you”… The “I will love you forever” turned into I cannot stand you within days…

Honestly, before this moment, I had yet to lift an eyebrow when those words were uttered or when I used them myself… those words related to “Forever”. It always sounded normal. Until this morning… Do I even know what “Forever” means?

I initially wrote this verse as a reminder of God’s greatness. I wrote it down because when I read it, my heart was overwhelmed with joy knowing that his word… himself… is alive. You know when you know something and you get a reminder of what you know? You feel reassured. You feel secured. So, all of that plus tax is how I felt!

Knowledge is to know. Understanding is grasping what you know. Wisdom is applying what you understand that you know.

Now, do I know what “Forever” means? Of course, I do.

Do I understand it? Truthfully, I understand that it is a concept that my brain can barely grasp. I have never seen it! I have never experienced it. Everything and everyone around me has an end date…

Nevertheless, it exists. That is the truth.

What is the wise thing to do? To believe God: the way, the truth and the life. To fully trust his Word. Undoubtedly. Wholeheartedly.

The one who created “the beginning”, the one who created time for me and you to live in, the one who is outside of time is Eternal. He lives Forever. His word… himself… stands forever. Eternally!

And the same God… the one true, living God, loves me? He made a way for you and me to be called His? He longs to share eternity with us? So much so, that he freely gives his Eternal Spirit to every single soul who is willing, through grace by faith. The invitation is extended continually… His arms are always open. This is grace.

God already made up His mind about us. Yet, some of us are still missing from the party. Don’t stay outside. Come in!

Thank God for enlightenment.

With a joyful heart,

Jess
